It’s Been a Hot Minute, but I’m Back!
Hello, Readers! I thought I would take a few moments to catch you up on what has been going on for Broken Gold and myself as it has been a few years since I have put up a blog post. I may have seemed quiet, but I have not been still! I have been busy learning, expanding, and growing!
First, I want to share some news that I am extremely proud of as it represents almost 4 years of work. In January 2021, I applied to be accepted as a candidate to the clinical registry of the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW). Becoming a registered clinical social worker (RCSW) in Alberta represents additional hours of direct client work, supervision, learning goals that represent advanced clinical expertise, and passing the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Clinical Exam. It is a process that can take 2-5 years to complete. This April, I completed all my requirements and was approved to take the exam, and in September I took and passed the clinical exam and was granted registration as a clinical social worker. This achievement represents my continued commitment to my professional development and I am very proud of the work I have done and the opportunities this designation will offer.
Over the past two years, I have been busy juggling the demands of my full caseload, running my solo-practitioner business, and looking for ways to grow. Here are some of the other things I have been up to:
I completed the Gottman Method Level 2 training and am very pleased to have new skills and strategies as part of my work as a couple’s therapist.
I also completed the DBT Intensive Plus training through Behavioral Tech in 2022.
In 2023, I started working with Virtuous Circle Counselling to facilitate DBT Skills Groups and am proud to be entering into my second year running these groups at VCC.
In 2024, I made the move from sole proprietor to incorporated business. Broken Gold Counseling, Ltd. is now an official business entity.
This year, I hired Mindful Media Management to help run my social media, and it has been lovely to have someone take this off my plate, but also help me to think strategically about how to use social media to connect with clients and potential clients.
I have also partnered with ATMA Cena as a contracted therapist and am pleased to be able to offer therapy services out of their SE location.
And there is still more to come! New and exciting changes are on the horizon for Broken Gold Counseling, and I can’t wait to be able to share more with you all along the way. Stay tuned…
