Welcome to Broken Gold

Kintsugi celebrates the brokenness of a piece of pottery and regards the cracks in the object as part of what makes it beautiful, rather than as something to be hidden.

Broken Gold Counseling is founded on the philosophy behind Kintsugi.  Our cracks don’t have to be seen as reminders of where we were broken, rather they can be testaments to our ability to heal beautifully.  The mistakes or tragedies we have experienced, have the power to transform us in brilliant and beautiful ways, if we chose to take responsibility for how to handle them as we move forward.

Difficult times do not have to break us but can help us grow.  Our cracks are the places where we have been broken open to let in the light and shine; the places where life has decided to line us with gold.  Our cracks can help us realize that even broken things can still be golden.

A Little About Me

Since 2013, I have worked in the areas of mental health and clinical social work.  My experience working within different types of mental health settings has taught me to view the challenges people face from a holistic perspective, meaning I see the personal and environmental influence on the problems we face, how we are able to cope with those problems, and the paths towards healing that are available to us.  My areas of focus have been working with adults and adolescents experiencing mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, trauma, borderline personality disorder, stress, transitions, relationship issues; loss and grief; and learning to adopt more effective habits and coping in life.

My practice is truly a reflection of my personality, style, and values. The things that I teach clients and use as treatment planning are not just evidenced-based techniques, but ideas and skills that I use as part of my own mental wellness practice. I work primarily through a cognitive-behavioral and dialectical behavioral lens. Most of my work with clients starts with collaboratively exploring the issues that clients bring to therapy and formulating specific treatment goals that will guide treatment planning. I am a problem-solution focused therapist, meaning, I am interested in exploring the problems you bring to therapy and then teaching you specific skills that offer more effective ways to manage these problems .

Besides my private practice, I enjoy spending time with my husband and three sons at home, or with friends. I like to write poetry and have been expanding my gardening skills each spring and summer. I have a strong sense of adventure and enjoy trying new things. I have a fondness for documentaries on science and history, and I love a good true crime podcast.

Areas of specialization.

Since 2013 I have been working with adults experiencing a variety of mental health concerns. The foundation of my approach is based on the evidence-based psychotherapy methods as well as strengths-based and narrative influences.

I also focus on trauma work through the use of Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) for rapid healing results without the need for verbal recount of the traumatic event.
